Musicians Give Big To Help A Comrad In Need

Deftones bassist Chi Cheng has been in a coma for over a year now and many celebrity musicians and companies have teamed up to create several cool auctions to help the Cheng family raise money for his mind numbing medical expenses.

It’s been 1 year now since Deftones bassist Chi Cheng went into a Coma following a car accident on Nov 4th 2008. As you can imagine, the medical bills for the Cheng family are astronomical. Oneloveforchi.com was created in March 2009 to help raise funds for Cheng and his medical expenses, where fans can donate to help towards a initial target of $20,000 (later raised to $50,000 and $100,000). It is also a place where fans can read personal blogs and comments from the Cheng family, and record a message that will be played to Cheng to further speed his recovery. Chi is awake and now at home beginning physical therapy but still has a long road ahead learning to talk and gain control over his muscles.

To help the Cheng family meet the donations needed, a variety of famous musicians and companies have teamed up to create several types of auctions to help raise money for Cheng on the site CharityBuzz.com.

Here are a few of the auctions listed:

Spend a Day in the Studio with Blink 182’s Mark Hoppus, to Produce a Track for your Band

2 General Admission Tickets with Backstage Passes for 5 Concerts of your Choice at Gibson Amphitheatre on Universal CityWalk

One Pair of Three-Day General Admission Tickets and VIP Passes to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival

Daron Malakian Of System Of A Down, Autographed Gibson Guitar!

These are just a few of the really cool auctions going on. Head over to www.charitybuzz.com to see the full list and to place some bids. Team Revivl has had the pleasure of hanging with Chi on a few occasions over the years and we would like to send our regards to the family and hope for a full recovery ASAP!

For those unfamiliar with his band “Deftones” you can check out a video below.

  • In 2006 or 2007 when Deftones toured with the Taste of Chaos tour, My best friend and I had the pleasure of meeting the Deftones because the local radio station aired that any Deftones fans wearing an old school Deftones shirt could meet them back stage. So we got backstage sporting our old school shirts. We met the band with a few other fans. Gotta say all the guys were great but Chi was a total sweetheart. He stood there and had a conversation with us like we were all old friends. He has such a bright soul. It broke my heart when I heard back in 2008 he was in a car crash then in an coma. My thoughts and well wishes are with him and his family.
