The point here is not just that he said he liked the album, but rather he linked the lyrics to his own worldview, which they have every right to come out against and to ask him to stop misrepresenting their work for evil. I personally think he's a populist shit stirrer with a poor knowledge of histroy and a love for anti-government conspiracy theories, fueling the intense hatred and division in America at the moment, and if he said he heard that message from anything I said or put out there musically, I'd tell him to step off too. Especiall since I've heard that he may or may not have murdered and raped a young girl in 1990.

Lol… does anyone else see the irony in all of this? The fact that Republican Beck can really.. seriously… ever… like.. really… Think that Muse has the same political views as he? That he can make such a hastey generalization without interviewing or atleast researching Muse first just PROVES Glen Beck runs off of opinion and fear, with very little actuality and fact to back up anything he says!

I dont blame Muse for wanting to be retracted. It wasn't just about making their own political stance clear, Im sure Muse knows that their audiance isn't incompetent. Its about making a man who constantly uses logical fallacies, fear, and plain fucking ignorance to gain popularity for the Republican party have to admit he was wrong, that he didnt do his research, and that someone is going to fucking take notice so he doesnt pull that shit again. The End.

Even then, he pretended like the whole thing was a big joke, making his audiance feel like Muse was over reacting, or hes all “buddy buddy” with the band and its all a gag. Either way, although it was nicely exicuted on his behalf, its sad that he didn't learn anything about this experience. If I were him i would feel compleatly ashamed… but I suppose a man with his head that far up his ass can't know much in the way of shame.

Can you truly blame Muse from wanting to distance themselves from Beck and his political views? His use of their music draws a link between the message of that song and Beck's philosophy. If they don't agree then they have every right to attempt to make it clear to their fan base that there is no commonality of politics between them and Beck.

If I were them, though, I wouldn't have asked for a retraction, but would instead have released a statement saying that Beck is taking the meaning of the song out of context, as is his right as a fan of their music, but that they want to be completely clear that they do not endorse or support Beck's political views even remotely and the song doesn't either. They could also say that they find it embarrassing to have their music linked with Beck's ideas in any way, but that once they release a song, it's out there for fans to listen to and identify with as they wish.

Then I would have just let it go. Why validate this guy at all?

I really LOVE their music – but I find this type of attitude sad and annoying. Glenn Beck has political opinions that Muse does not agree with – but they should act like the opened minded people I am sure they believe they are and not shun people because they don't agree with their politics. Glenn Beck is not any more extreme than someone like Keith Olberman – just on the other side. I am no liberal – but my entire life, much of my favorite music contains lyrics that would be considered very political – and very left. The fact that Glenn Beck would rave about their music on his show – knowing that their views are different – shows him to be the one with the open mind.

Just one thing? He was right about Van Jones and proved it with recordings of speeches Jones made.

Beck is a salesman supreme and a fear monger but he is not the racist nut that people paint him out to be. He is also right about a lot more than some people would like to admit.

Instead of drinking the partisan flavor-aid of either party learn to think for yourself and pick up a history book. The Repubs deserve all the shit that is flung at them but those on the other side are even more bigoted and single minded.

Smug, self-righteous eco-nut Democrats are no better than the religious nut with the "turn or burn" sign on their lawn. A pox on both their houses.

I bet all of you so desperate to comment feel like fools now. It was revealed the whole”retraction” thing was a bit by Beck. He made it up. It was a joke. No representatives from the band ever contacted him.
