Incidentally, the Starwood Club closed down two years later. Quiet Riot however went on to huge success and released an album in 1983 that topped the U.S. charts; unheard of for a heavy metal band.

Dear Michele,

Your letter scared me, upon first glance, I hadn’t any idea what it was about, but when you told me, it struck in a strange way, I hadn’t any idea that I talked about my guitar so often, I’m going to have to change that, no matter who I talk to.

It’s a drag that it screwed up our relationship, you should have told me sooner, but I don’t think that’s the only reason, you just don’t like me that much, and I can see why, because I’m a hard person to get along with at times.

But any I’m glad we got that straight, thank you for not lying to me. To get off the subject, you look really nice today, you get prettier & prettier every day. My weekend was pretty good. Steve came by and we went to a couple parties, and we went to the Starwood, I spent pretty much of my weekend on cloud 9 if you know what I mean.

I had never been in the Starwood before, like, we hung around outside, but I’ve never been inside. It’s not such a hot place, I mean the Bands are alright, the girls are pretty (I still think you cuter than any of the girls there) the drugs are cool but it’s not a place I would want to waste my life at. The most exciting part of the night was, a guy mouthed off to this black guy, and the black got a hundred friends and chased him around all Hollywood. It’s a pretty crazy place. I’m going there next week to see Quiet Riot, because I hear there pretty good. One of these days I’ll play there.

Then I saw this one. Dammit……Sigur Ros is a part of this coalition as well? Now I really feel super guilty. What other of my favorite bands are with “Why Music Matters“? It was time to do some investigating.

The Music Matters website has a tab for “supporting sites”. Thats a good place to start. Lets see…….. Spotify, Itunes, We7, MTV, Napster, ……….Amazon,……………….? WTF! These are all sites that would gain from people not illegally downloading. Where are the bands that are supposedly supporting this? Who the hell owns this site?

Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith has teamed up with Mary Poppins star Dick Van Dyke to record a children’s album.

‘Rhythm Train’, which has been co-produced by Smith with LA Kids[/a] singer [b]Leslie Bixler, sees the sticksman play vocal characters like a pirate and train conductor on several tracks.

“I may not be playing as hard but I still am trying to be creative,” Smith told Spinner.com, of playing drums compared with the Chili Peppers. “It’s just trying to make the songs as good as I can. That doesn’t change.”

Songs that appear on the 13 track album include ‘Roly Poly In My Guacamole’ and ‘Lotta Dinosaur’.

“I am certainly no rapper but I helped guide Dick with it the first day. It was pretty funny,” Smith said.

“At my age, my generation, we are not particularly rap-crazy,” Van Dyke added. “Rap has a great beat, but I swear to God, I have never been able to understand one word. I don’t know what they’re saying.”

“A child abuse prevention group in the U.K. is protesting against British rock icons The Who’s appearance at the NFL’s Super Bowl XLIV halftime show on February 7. Child Abuse Watch is requesting the NFL remove guitarist Pete Townshend from the lineup due to his 2003 arrest for accessing child pornography on his computer.

Child Abuse Watch founder and CEO Evin Daly told the press, “The Who is a great band. Pete Townshend is the only issue here.”

Townshend, pictured, was given a police warning following the charges and put on the U.K.’s Violent and Sex Offender Register for five years. Townshend contends that he purchased access to a Texas-based pedophile website as part of research for his autobiography, which was published in 2008. He was also booked for possession of “indecent pictures,” but was cleared of those charges, as no pictures were found on his computer.

Child Abuse Watch published a position statement on Townshend’s halftime show appearance, which, if Super Bowl XLIII’s ratings are any indication, could be watched by upwards of 100 million people. It also wrote a letter to the NFL on the matter. On its website, the organization writes that the musician “pleaded guilty” and “was never cleared of any charges pertaining to his caution and resulting sex offender status.” The statement also highlights an article Townshend wrote on child pornography as proof of his research and a graphic fictional story he published to his website in 2006. The story was quickly taken down, with Townshend admitting it was “ill-advised.”

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy insists that the band will perform as scheduled. “UK police cleared him since he was doing research for a project on child abuse,” he said.”

Axis of Awesome – Four Chords, 36 Songs

That’s right, you weren’t crazy after all. While this video demonstrates a chord progression being used over and over, you can see that the melody lines over top are a bit different but still similar. If you’re writing pop music then everyone is using the same scales and occasionally even the melody line will be the same. Like for instance the Satriani lawsuit.

Ok still not convinced. The lawsuit story was a hot article here on Rev with a lot of discussion. One reader pointed out that there is another song that sounds very similar to Coldplay & Satriani and pre-dates both of them. The video below shows it in action.

“So this morning we woke up at our delightful Marriot Courtyard hotel (Priceline, get into it) and walked outside to get in the van to head to Chicago for our second show of the tour. Only problem, it isn’t there. Either someone is pulling some Merlin shit on us and just waiting for the perfect moment to unveil it and calm our shot nerves, or a talented scumbag stole our van and trailer with literally everything we own inside. Needless to say, we’re crushed. Our most beloved instruments are gone, and trust me, we’re gear nerds.

“After a great deal of scrambling and deliberation, we found a way to stay on tour, after a few days off to get some gear and a rental van together. Having something like this happen is the worst thing that can happen to any band short of someone dying, and we’re incredibly stoked to finish this tour with Billy Talent and play every night doing what we love.

“Our most sincere thanks to everyone who offered to help us in any way, our friends mean the world to us and everyone who has reached out today is absolutely mind blowing. Huge huge ups to Adam, Dave, and Jackie at Yeah!, the entire Ferret Records Family (Carl cause hes got the cash and Rick cause he calls the shots), Issac and the entire Indie Merch and Jakprints family, Tour Dog Leasing and Rental (thanks for driving to detroit to come get us), Jimmy and First Act Guitars, Russel Blair and Orange Amps, Derek at Ernie Ball, Tyme Rogers and Tech 21, Evan Obrien and Korg, Scott Uchida and Jim Dunlop, Jon “Shabba on the spot” Linton, John ‘Badge’ Chidley. Rob Dobi, creator of yourscenesucks.com has added a few more scenesters to the list and these are so funny. However, the “Crunkcore Poser” really stood out because i’ve kinda seen this one coming and I fear this could become quite large. This new genre takes the worst ideas from hip-hop like bling, slutty girls, and a vocoder (AKA Crunk) and mixes it with the prepubescent high pitch squeals of screamo. Let’s take a look at Rob’s illustration of the typical “Crunkcore Kid”.

I think he sums it best with this statement:

the crunkcore movement is one that seems to be a brilliant marketing strategy by some sort of modern day lou pearlman who learned to tap into the brain of misguided emo kids who don’t know where to turn. there is no way such a genre would evolve organically, someone had to have made a conscious marketing decision to create one of the worst crossover genres of all time and throw it on myspace to see what happens.

I will be seriously concerned with the youth of today is this is what they decide to latch onto. Below are two videos that represent the movement. The first is a band called Brokencyde that is at the top of this new genre and one of the bands we can blame for starting this crap. Below that is a video example of how this is starting to spread in small towns across the country and is what really has me concerned. Oh for the simple days when devil worshiping was all parents had to be concerned about. I’ll take Deicide, Morbid Angel, and a full back piece of an inverted cross tattooed on my kids back any day over him coming home and listening to this shit.
