Bummer: Sigur Rós On Indefinite Hiatus

Wow, this is not the kind of news I wanted to wake up and post. One of our favorite bands Sigur Rós is now on indefinite hiatus. Usually when you see indefinite hiatus you can translate that into broke up but with a little wiggle room just in case something changes. Another one of our favorite bands, At The Drive-In, is about 10 years in into theirs right now. What makes this so weird is that the band had posted that the new record was almost done.

sigur rós have been at work in their sundlaugin studio in álafoss the past few weeks recording a full length album, which is now nearing completion. orri told morgunblaðið newspaper today that the recordings have been going very well and that the album is taking form as a slower and more ambient record than með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust and takk

According to Paste, Frontman Jónsi Birgisson recently told Spinner, “We haven’t got another [Sigur Rós] album ready. It was just a rumor. We started to record something, but then we chucked it all away. So I think we are going to have to start it all again.”

So now that the band has some free time, the question now is how to fill it. Easy, make some babies, duh! For vocalist Jonsi, his baby is a new solo project slated to come out this spring. Check out the track below from his upcoming solo album.

Tool frontman “Maynard James Keenan” is more then just a singer for one of the biggest rock bands in the world. He is also a wine maker. Keenan owns Merkin Vineyards and Caduceus Cellars which is located in an area known as Kansas Settlement in Sulfur Springs Valley, Arizona. Keenan also stars in Blood Into Wine: The Arizona Stronghold, a documentary about Keenan’s embarkation into winemaking in the desert conditions of Arizona’s Verde Valley, and the success they’ve seen in the decade since its inception.

Now the first trailer released many months ago looked like a typical documentary about the struggles and achievements of making wine in Arizona. The second trailer released a few days ago, has me a little confused and excited. It features Bob Odenkirk, Patton Oswalt, Milla Jovovich and it’s quite funny in a Mockumentary kind of way.

EMI Sues Vimeo For Encouraging Users To Submit “Lip Dubbing” Videos

The record label EMI has sued video streaming site Vimeo for copyright infringement for encouraging it’s users to upload clips of them lip-syncing over a prerecorded song. According to Media Post,the complaint alleges that Vimeo not only displays “lip dubs,” but also advises users to create the clips by combining videos of themselves with high-quality copies of songs. “This ensures that the music that accompanies the ‘lip dub’ video, which virtually always is copied directly from a commercial recording, is high-quality, of substantial volume, and is the focal point of the audiovisual work,” the lawsuit alleges.

These big record labels really know how to crash a party. Rolling Stone put it into perspective by saying it’s probably just a coincidence that EMI’s lawsuit against Vimeo comes just a few weeks after the major label agreed to terms to license its music and videos to Vevo, YouTube’s new video streaming site made in collaboration with the record industry.

The Man In Black Praises A Man Named Beck

This short video is from 1997 and shows a very coherent Cash giving Beck some nice love. If you remember any of the interviews he did after the release of his last covers record, he seemed kind of out of it.

I always felt that Rubin probably just put him up to covering NIN because he thought it would sell more records not because he may have been a fan. That’s just what went through my head but after seeing this interview my initial thoughts may have been wrong. I’m sure this is covered all of over the web with all of my queries answered years ago but it apparently wasn’t high on my list of things to do.

Whatever the case, I found this to be a very interesting clip and a great watch!

Wait, Thom Yorke Has A New Band With Flea?

A few days ago Thom Yorke announced he had a new band put together on the Radiohead blog Dead Air Space. I have to admit, I didn’t pay much attention to it. He already did a solo record a few years ago “The Eraser” and the bit I heard online was that he would be doing some tracks from this. Well I really should have paid more attention.

hi, in the past couple of weeks i’ve been getting a band together for fun to play the eraser stuff live and the new songs etc.. to see if it could work!
here’s a photo.. its me, joey waronker, mauro refosco, flea and nigel godrich.

Flea is in the band? Crazy but this is just the backing band for Thom and they are just doing Eraser material right? Well that’s what I thought until you read this line:

at the beginning of october the 4th and 5th we are going to do a couple of shows at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles. we don’t really have a name and the set will not be very long cuz ..well …we haven’t got that much material yet! but come and check it out if you are in the area. we’ve also got locals Lucky Dragons playing.all the best

Wait, no name and do not have a lot of material yet? This is blowing my mind. Earlier today Thom made another post on the blog announcing a show in LA tonight.

Poison The Well Van And Trailer Stolen In Detroit.

Poison The Well had their van and trailer (including all of their gear) stolen in Detroit following the first show of their tour with Billy Talent. The band does indeed have insurance, and they will resume the tour in a day or two.

Here’s a statement from the group:

“So this morning we woke up at our delightful Marriot Courtyard hotel (Priceline, get into it) and walked outside to get in the van to head to Chicago for our second show of the tour. Only problem, it isn’t there. Either someone is pulling some Merlin shit on us and just waiting for the perfect moment to unveil it and calm our shot nerves, or a talented scumbag stole our van and trailer with literally everything we own inside. Needless to say, we’re crushed. Our most beloved instruments are gone, and trust me, we’re gear nerds.

“After a great deal of scrambling and deliberation, we found a way to stay on tour, after a few days off to get some gear and a rental van together. Having something like this happen is the worst thing that can happen to any band short of someone dying, and we’re incredibly stoked to finish this tour with Billy Talent and play every night doing what we love.

“Our most sincere thanks to everyone who offered to help us in any way, our friends mean the world to us and everyone who has reached out today is absolutely mind blowing. Huge huge ups to Adam, Dave, and Jackie at Yeah!, the entire Ferret Records Family (Carl cause hes got the cash and Rick cause he calls the shots), Issac and the entire Indie Merch and Jakprints family, Tour Dog Leasing and Rental (thanks for driving to detroit to come get us), Jimmy and First Act Guitars, Russel Blair and Orange Amps, Derek at Ernie Ball, Tyme Rogers and Tech 21, Evan Obrien and Korg, Scott Uchida and Jim Dunlop, Jon “Shabba on the spot” Linton, John ‘Badge’ Chidley. Some of these people have always helped us out and are further making our lives better. Some of these people barely know us and have helped us this with this shit time.

“If you want to help out, we’ll have a limited edition shirt online sometime soon that makes fun of our situation and is awesome, and all proceeds from that will go to wiping away our tears and some new tumbleweeds for the insides of our wallets.”

Pacifico is not a band. It’s an idea. It is the musical journey of singer/songwriter Matthew Schwartz. Pacifico has gone through many changes but has always remained Matthew’s outlet for passionate songwriting. Pacifico’s first release for ALLALOM Music (“Anthology” – a collection of his best works from the beginning of the band) was released in 2006 and re-released it in March 2008 which has caused a renewed interest in this amazing talent and was followed shortly by the release of “Facedown“, a more stripped down EP showcasing his ability to raise the bar for singer/songwriters around the world.

National Day of Slayer under White House Review

The folks over at www.nationaldayofslayer.org are bound and determined to get their beloved genre of music “Heavy Metal” to be declared a national holiday and they think Slayer is the perfect spokesperson to represent the cause. In a press release issued yesterday, it says that they have officially petitioned the White House to make the holiday official.

The International Day of Slayer was born back in 2006 as the “National Day of Slayer,” at first a parody of the “National Day of Prayer” celebrated in the United States. As its popularity grew, its backers found support for making it an international holiday, since Slayer exemplifies metal culture and its spirit. Now in its third year of existence, the International Day of Slayer is celebrated on June 6Th.

The requested proclamation is reproduced below:

“Resolution

WHEREAS, Hessian’s are a legitimate elective culture that should be recognized with their own national day of celebration and

WHEREAS, Slayer is freaking awesome and one of the most influential metal bands in history and

WHEREAS, The theme of the National Day of Slayer is “Don’t go to work, listen to Slayer,” which reflects the imminent importance of Slayer in the lives of hessian’s across America and

NOW, THEREFORE I, Barack Obama, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, hereby proclaim the day of June 6, 2009, as National Day of Slayer, saluting the valuable artistic contributions of the band Slayer and the legitimacy of the hessian culture that supports them. And I call upon all Americans to listen to Slayer on this day and every day hereafter.”

All of us at Revivl definitely support a day to celebrate one of metals most beloved bands and genres. As far as this becoming a national holiday, I highly doubt this would happen but
these guys seem to be semi organized and extremely dedicated. How dedicated you ask? Watch the clip below. SLAYERRRRRRRRRR!!!
